quilting: a scrappy finish

this post has been a long time coming... i finished my super scrappy #scrappytripalong quilt top last january, sent it off to be quilted by the lovely Shelly of Prairie Moon Quilts, got it back (along with this quilt) beautifully quilted, and it has been sitting in my closet for six months or so, just waiting to be bound.

as cold weather settles in, i find my interest in quilts resurfacing, and i knew that this quilt needed to be finished and keeping me warm asap!

the quilting is a variation on orange peel, where the "petals" form a x-shape in the squares instead of circling around the squares. the scale of the quilting remains the same in the center of the quilt, where the squares are half the size, so the petals each fill one center square. all much easier to show than say ;)

the quilt is backed with fine feathered in denim from Anna Maria's field study collection (which i might have mentioned just last week is likely the greatest fabric collection ever).

for the (hand-sewn!) binding, i used a mix of Alison Glass prints: feathers, text, party streamer, and bike path from her sun print collections, and also a lucky penny print thrown in there. i think that the colors in Alison's collections work really well with this quilt, and especially love how the text prints look. really, these fabrics are great in so many ways.

i think the greatest thing about this quilt is how many fabulous prints and designers are represented, kind of like my fabric obsession wrapped up in one crinkly, cuddly package. you can't help but smile when wrapped up in that kind of fabric fabulousness.

happy stitching!
