so, i finally made something for me!!! with sewing summit rapidly approaching, the pressure to finally make this skirt was escalating... i had been planning in my head for months, after all. so last weekend, i finally got to it.
the body of the skirt is Robert Kaufman 21 wale corduroy in amethyst from sewn studio, the waistband is a rib knit from Joann's, and the feather is made up of Anna Maria Horner's field study with a stem of yarn-dyed essex linen.
i wanted to make a fall/winter skirt that kept the comfort of the jersey skirts of summer, and i think i've done it! the fit is not perfect, but it's pretty darn close and for a first try, i'm happy with that. also, it's comfy, and that's pretty fab.
when i have some time (hehe), i think i'll put together a simple how-to for the skirt if anyone is interested??
the major inspiration for this skirt was the Birds of a Feather Maxi Skirt with Anna Maria Horner from creativebug. here's a little preview:
after ogling all of the fab classes for a while, i finally signed up for creativebug last month. this class is the first one i've watched and it's amazingly well done. also nice: i was able to just watch the parts of the class that i wanted. i did end up watching more than i "needed to" in order to make the feather for my skirt just because it was so interesting. also, who doesn't love AMH??
the vision i had of the giant cropped feather on the skirt came out just like i had hoped!! so, yeah, i'm pretty pumped to know i'll be packing this up in my sewing summit suitcase. (in only a few days!!)
and just because i love creativebug so much, i have to share with you this fun pinterest contest they have going on...
