this is not just any polka dot quilt... it's a polka dot quilt for K's 8th birthday!! how that kiddo got to be eight years old is beyond me, but that's quite a separate matter.
as i decided approximately zero free hours before her party to make this quilt, it had to be something that would come together quickly. i started with two of Kaffe Fassett's Simply Spots charm packs and added a border with some more Kaffe spots (all fabrics from sewn studio).
i'm incredibly happy with how the polka dots turned out. the colors in these fabrics are fabulous, and if you haven't seen them in person, you need to. the hand is amazing... they feel almost like voile, which makes the quilt incredibly soft and light. i backed the quilt with Aunt Polly's flannel in - you guessed it - more polka dots!
the quilt measures approximately 44x65", which is perfect for K's bed because she doesn't like her sheets and blankets to fall over the sides. the binding is another colorway of the Kaffe dots, and batting is tuscany bleached cotton from Hobbs Batting.
the print is so busy that the quilting is hard to see, but i quilted it in a very loose herringbone pattern inspired this amazing pillow from Heather at {House} of A La Mode (she was inspired by this rainbow scrap quilt from Ashley at film in the fridge, a must see!).
i adore that my not-so-little girl is still little enough to love everything i make for her. my hope is that this quilt will grow with her, and always remind her of how dear she is to me.
extra thanks to my hubs, the very patient shadow model. i couldn't have made this quilt without you, love. xoxo
though her birthday isn't until next week, we celebrated last night with a slumber party. these pics capture the evening fairly well... if, of course, you just imagine it much louder, with excessive giggling, occasional squeals, and some parental shushing.
happy birthday, my sweet girl!
