sewing: winter wonderland collection

today i'm sharing what i made with the new Pattern Anthology collection, Winter Wonderland! i remixed two of these fab patterns to make a winter-ready outfit for my animal-print-loving girl.

first up, the tree climber trousers, pattern by Andrea Pannell for Go To Patterns, a unisex slim-fit pant with optional reinforced knee. pattern includes both front and back pockets, a faux fly, and instructions for either an elastic waist or fun buckle belt option.

then we have the sweet bonnie top by Shwin Designs, a raglan top with peter pan collar and exposed zipper opening in the back. pattern includes both long and short sleeved options, and can be made with either woven or knit fabrics.

i made these tree climber trousers out of cheetah-print velveteen from Anna Maria Horner's field study collection (aka probably the greatest fabric collection ever released), and they are perfection. the slim fit is perfect for my lanky girl, and i was able to gather all of the elastic in my waistband to the back so as to simulate a flat front pant, which give the pants more of the grown-up look i'm needing as she quickly approaches the tween years.

i eliminated the three-part front pant leg, in favor of a solid piece, and i omitted the back pocket flaps for more of a jeans look. i lined both front and back pockets with a small-scale pink cheetah print. becuase you can never have enough cheetah, amiright?

i love how these pants fit, i think they'll get a ton of wear this winter, and they were a super quick sew! really, it doesn't get any better than that.

for my sweet bonnie top made fur coat, i simply cut the front pattern piece in half and added in 1/2" seam allowance on both sides for sewing in the zipper. i cut all of the pattern pieces out of my lining fabric (the same pink cheetah as the pants pockets linings) and stitched the lining to outer right sides together. then i finished the arms with cuffs of black knit ribbing.

the amazing fabric i used for this coat is a faux fur from Shannon Fabrics (the same one i used for this tutorial) that is just so super soft. and would you believe that i happened to have a zipper that was just the right length in my stash? kismet, i tell you! this jacket was meant to be and she loves it.

we had a fun time wandering around the hotel where we stayed last weekend and taking pics. and sure, we might have gotten a few looks, but it's all in a day's work for a super model in her new faux fur jacket and velveteen cheetah pants!

you can see all of the new patterns in the Winter Wonderland collection right here.

happy stitching!
