it’s another doll sewing pattern… meet the eva pants. this free 18″ doll pants pattern is a super simple elastic-waist straight leg pant, and also includes options for leggings and shorts.
the eva pants have only one pattern piece and they are definitely beginner-friendly! while the pattern includes options for leggings and shorts, you could also easily make these pants into capris, pajamas, or dress them up with some fun trim.
materials:
- fat quarter or 1/4 yard fabric (directional prints may require additional fabric)
- 1/4 yard of 1/2″ elastic
- click here to download the eva pants pattern
pattern pieces:
- for pants: cut two on solid fold line
- for leggings: cut two on dotted fold line
- for shorts: cut two on fold
notes:
- all seam allowances are 1/4” unless otherwise noted.
- pants or shorts can be made with woven or stretch fabrics. leggings pattern is intended for stretch fabrics only.
- I recommend back-stitching at the beginning and end of all seams.
instructions:
1. finish bottom (hem) raw edge of pants legs (use zig-zag stitch, trim with pinking shears, or serge).
2. fold up finished edge 3/8″ and topstitch 1/4″ from folded edge.
3. fold each pants leg right sides together (RST) and stitch leg seam. finish seam with desired method (pinking shears, zig-zag stitch, or serging).
4. turn one leg right-side-out and place inside other leg.
5. stitch center seam. finish seam with desired method.
6. cut one 9″(for pants or shorts) or 8-1/2″(for leggings) piece of 1/2″ wide elastic.
7. overlap ends by 1/2″ and zig-zag stitch to secure.
8. optional: finish top edge of pants as desired.
9. pin elastic to wrong side of shorts waistband, aligning with raw edge.
10. stitch around top edge of pants with zig-zag stitch, stretching elastic to fit.
11. fold down elastic to inside of pants, and pin.
12. stitch with zig-zag stitch 1/2″ from folded top edge, stretching elastic to fit.
just like that, you have yourself a new pair of pants! don’t miss the chloe cardi or tee pattern here, and up next will be the chloe dress… all the basics you need to whip up a whole wardrobe. pants shown are made with this herringbone chambray from the shop. step-out photos by Monica Swift of Adirondack Inspired.
