Hi friends! Unless you live in southern California, you’ve been treated to a nice blast of winter weather this last week.  Here is a quick little hooded scarf project that will help keep your little ones warm and stylish for the holiday season!

For this project, I specifically used my (beloved) Bimaa pattern, but you could adapt any of your hood patterns. The Bimaa just has the added bonus of an ear template, and let’s face it, hoods are cuter with ears.

Once you have your pattern laid out, you will want to extend the front down to make a scarf. I made it about 6 inches wide, and that worked pretty well. As far as how long you want it, this version is a whopping 32″. I knew I wanted to loop it around her neck a couple of times, or maybe make a bow if we were going to be getting all fancy. If you just wanted to simply tie it in front 10″ would probably do. Choose your own scarf adventure!

I knew I wanted to make this as soon as I saw the amazing flannel in the Imagine Gnats shop. It is the perfect deep red color, and I love the texture of it. Not just the flannel-y softness, but but the texture the black thread gives the look of the fabric.

I’ve only ever used flannel fabric from the big fabric stores (I won’t name names…) and there really is no comparison. This is so much softer, and it doesn’t pill after watching, which that other flannel does pretty much immediately (annoying!). The inside lining of the scarf is what Jo Ann’s calls cuddle fabric, I think. I’ve had it in my stash forever, and it makes my girl look like a little teddy bear.

She loves the ears!  And so do I.  This is definitely a simple project that packs a lot of punch, which is really how I like all my projects.  When you find the right combo of pattern and fabric, it somehow just all comes together, don’t you think?

With winter starting early this year, and last winter ending oh-so-late, I’m glad to have this pop of color and cuteness to cheer me up!  Stay warm, friends…
